Montgomeryshire Society Annual Schools Competition 2018/19

Essay

An essay or story in English or Welsh of not more than 1500 words on one of the following subjects:    

  • Mental health- what should we do in schools to support it?
  • A Montgomeryshire fairy tale.
  • How do we make all sports equally popular with boys and girls? 
  • What can we all do to help reduce climate change?
  • The mistake

Work of Art

A 2-dimensional work of art in any medium on one of the following themes:


  • A still life-At school.
  • Colour.
  • Welsh landscape. 
  • The character.
  • Transport.

Groups

For the purpose of adjudication, the competition will be organised in three groups:


Group A: Years 7 & 8

Group B: Years 9 &10

Group C: Years 11-13


Awards


First prize: all groups £80

Second prize: all groups £40


The closing date for the submission of entries will be Tuesday, 5th March 2019

Traethawd neu stori yn y Gymraeg neu’r Saesneg heb fod dros 1500 o eiriau ar un o’r testunau canlynol:


  • Iechyd meddwl - beth y dylem ei wneud i’w gefnogi yn yr ysgol?
  • Stori tylwyth teg ym Maldwyn.
  • Sut mae gwneud chwaraeon yr un mor boblogaidd ymhlith bechgyn a merched?
  • Beth allwn ni ei wneud i helpu i leihau’r newid yn yr hinsawdd?
  • Y camgymeriad.


Celfyddyd

Gwaith celf 2-D mewn unrhyw gyfrwng ar un o’rthemâu canlynol:


  • Bywyd llonydd-Yn yr ysgol.
  • Lliw.
  • Tirlun Cymreig.
  • Y Cymeriad.
  • Cludiant.

Dylid cyflwyno’r cyfansoddiadau erbyn dydd Mawrth, 5ed Fawrth, 2019

Rules and Regulations

  • Each entry must be the competitor’s own work.
  • A competitor may submit a Welsh and English essay.
  • Each entry must be submitted through the competitor’s Head Teacher.
  • The competitor’s pen name and full name, together with the name of his/her school, competition group and title of the essay or work of art, should be written IN BLOCK letters on a separate sheet of paper and attached to the entry in a sealed envelope. Entry forms are provided.
  • The competitor’s pen name, title and the competition group ONLY should be written at the top of an essay or on the back of artwork.
  • The closing date for the submission of entries isTuesday, 5th March 2019. The Vaughan Davies Awards are additional to the Charles Churchill Awards, so it is possible for the same entry to be awarded two prizes.
  • Although every effort is made to safeguard the entries, the Society cannot accept any responsibility for loss or damage. The Society hopes to exhibit the prize winning art entries to the public and therefore these entries may be retained for a short period. Pupils are requested to retain an electronic copy of their essays as the prize winning entries may be requested in this format so that they can be posted on the Society’s website.
  • Pupils may not submit more than one art entry, one Welsh essay and one English essay.

  • Rhaid i bob cyfansoddiad fod yn waith o eiddo’r cystadleuydd ei hun.
  • Gellir ysgrifennu traethawd yn y Gymraeg a’r Saesneg.
  • Rhaid cyflwyno pob cyfansoddiad drwy law y Prifathro/athrawes.
  • Rhaid ysgrifennu mewn LLYTHRENNAU BRAS ffugenw, enw cywir llawn pob cystadleuydd yn ogystalag enw’r ysgol, adran y gystadleuaeth a theitl y traethawd neu waith celf, ar ddarn o bapur ar wahân mewn amlen a’i glynu i’rcyfansoddiad. 
  • Dylid ysgrifennu’r ffugenw, teitl y traethawd a’r adran yn unig ar frig y traethawd/gefn yr arunwaith.
  • Ni chaniateir dangos enw cywir y cystadleuydd nac enw’r ysgol ar y cyfansoddiad ei hun.
  • Dylid cyflwyno’r cyfansoddiadau erbyn dydd Mawrth, 5ed Fawrth 2019. Y mae gwobrau Vaughan Davies am draethodau Cymraeg  yn ychwanegol at wobrau Charles Churchill ac felly mae’n bosib i draethawd Cymraeg ennill dwy wobr.
  • Er y gwneir pob ymdrech i ofalu am y cyfansoddiadau, ni fedr y Gymdeithas dderbyn cyfrifoldeb am unrhyw golled neu niwed. Gobeithiwn y bydd yn bosib arddangos y cyfansoddiadau celf buddugol. Gofynnir i gystadleuwyr gadw copi electroneg o’u traethawd fel y gellir rhoi’r rhai buddugol ar ein gwefan.
  • Ni chaniateir i unrhyw ddisgybl gyflwyno mwy nag un gwaith celf, traethawd Cymaeg a thraethawd Saesneg, nac i gyflwyno drachefn ceisiadau sydd wedi’u cyflwyno i’n cystadlaethau yn y gorffennol.
